Health & Wellness Village Educates
Through Fun at the 2006 Asian Heritage Festival

Des Moines, Iowa (March 24, 2006)—One of the many new features of the 2006 Asian Heritage Festival on May 13th is the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Health & Wellness Village.

According to AAPCHO (Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations) the lack of disaggregate data combined with linguistic and cultural barriers makes health care in the Asian American community a very complicated issue for providers to address.

"The Health Village is a great way for us to engage the Asian American communities in a hands-on way to proactively think about their health", says Melanie Vaccaro, public relations chair for the festival.

Festival planners are seeking participation and input from health-related entities as they plan an educational and interactive Health & Wellness Village that will focus on these priorities:
